Try both running MGTools.exe in safe mode and also try renaming it to abc.com and see if it will run.

Are you telling me to boot up in safe mode or are you telling me there is some switch setting I need to set in MG. I'm thinking the former but want to clarify.

    Thanks

Yes. Try booting to safe mode and see if you cant get MGTools to run. If it still doesn't, then try renaming it. Tell me what error messages you get.

    Tim:

Rebooted in safe mode. Tried running MG. GetLogs.bat executes. Stops with running scan with GetRunKeys.bat and a Note: Ignore any error about not finding registry keys! Just wait for program to finish running.

Cursor continues to flash in lower left corner.

Renamed MGTools.exe to abc.exe with same result.

When booting to Safe Mode this entry was also on the screen:

"Do not select this [debugger enabled]"

I do not want to appear unappreciative of the assistnace and work conducted by the brain power on this site but am curious how to continue when communication appears to have stopped prior to resolution.

Again, very appreciative but still dead in the water.

You may not know this, but we all have a life. That sometimes takes precedence. We are a bit stumped as to why you can't run MGTools. So let's have you run an online scan and see what it tells us:

    eSet Online Scan.

  8. TapperIsTicked

    TapperIsTicked Private E-2

Started ESET's on-line scan last night. Watched the scan around 15 minutes and saw 5 threats detected before I went to bed. The CPU was locked up this morning and had to be rebooted. Ran ESET's again with no threat found and no export function available.

Is there a directory that I can go to that might hold the first run results if it by chance completed before lock up?

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

Uninstall ViewpointMediaPlayer if it is listed.

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into notepad, save it as something appropriate and attach it into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Now go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now run this Running Kaspersky Online Scanner

Try to run the new C:\MGTools.exe

If it really does not run then run OTL again and attach the log(s)

Yes, they are both the same logs. Have you run TDSSKiller yet? We would like to see the log from that. And after running it, can you now run MGTools?

Having success with MG and Zilla I thought I'd try Combofix. It ran successfully and is uploaded here. Additional files attached to earlier post.

    Again thanks.

First off, it is a very bad idea to allow all users to have Admin. privileges!! I suggest you log into each account and run both SAS and MBAM.

In the meantime, lets do this:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\osajeleh.dll

Now tell me what malware issues you may still have, it any.

    Tim:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Gbafaqi] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\osajeleh.dll",Startup
is not being reported by Hijack This nor am I getting the error that I had earlier when booting up:

    "Error loading"
    "C:\Windows\osajeleh.dll

I do have 9 other 04 codes identified but this is not one of them. The system is running much faster after the last two posts made. No idea why just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks and I'll hold tight until further instruction.

Did you get a success message for the reg fix? If you did, and you are not having any other malware issues, we can do the final cleanup:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I stopped at the HijackThis portion of your previous post. Are you telling me if I don't see the line noted in HiJackThis I should proceed to the next step and let you know the outcome?

    Tim:

The RegEdit reported back successfully and a Search of C:\Windows for osajeleh.dll returned zero hits. I believe I am at the point now where I follow your last post and finish up.

I want to thank you and the others that make this site available. I assume there is a "Support/Contribute" Button on the home page I can contribute to. If not and there is an alternative please let me know.

    Thanks again for your help.
