    Hello!

I've been infected by this trojan yesterday and found this thread about it http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=167094 and followed the steps written there. I just wanted to ask if I did everything correct and have no longer an infection.

It seems that Combo fix has deleted the autostart of AVG Free, should I just reinstall AVG Free?

Why do get everyone an answer except of me?

Because earlier I was the only malware fighter online, I managed some current threads, tended to some new ones, and then I stopped. Reason being, I had to go to work. I did not feel like taking on any more threads and further more I did not have time anyway. Ensure that you now take a look at this:

Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

Also you need to be aware that we volunteer to assist in malware removal here. It is not paid for work. Alot of patience will be required on both my part and yours ;)

I am reviewing your logs now. (3.21am and finished work at 12am)

A warning: You should never follow advice given in another thread regardless of the "similarities" to your problem. Different machine > different fix. You could actually do a computer some serious damage by following advice given to another.

No, try this: (And I do not see where combofix was responsible for removing it's start up)

Adding Programs to your start up folder

You did not run SUPERantispyware and you did not attach logs from Malware Bytes. Please do so now.

    Then do this:

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Sorry for bumping!! I really thought I won't get an answer anymore 'cause I was the only one without help from all other threads, I will be more patient the next time!

I attached the logs and so far was everything ok, the performance of my system is not being influenced by something and the malware pop-ups stopped after this http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 Malware guide.

I also added the log of AVG when I had the Agent_r trojan (the log is in German but you will see the explore.exe infected with agent_R)

    1. Did you let avg quarantine this?

    2. I see RSIT.exe on the desktop, why is this? Are you receiving help at another forum? Or were you just following other's fixes hoping it would help you? (Which as I pointed out, is very bad to do)

    3. Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Combofix reports to have disinfected the infected atapi.sys. Tell me how your computer is behaving now compared to before?

    1. AVG couldn't quarantine this because it was embedded in explorer.exe (something with memory_00010000)

    2. To be honest, I also receive help from different forums becuase my earlier experience with trojans was that I had fixed it by searching people who had the same symptoms. My first goal was to get rid of it as fast as possible because I had for example spontaneous pop-ups when I was surfing with Firefox
If you recommend to quit the help I will do so and just concentrate on your steps

    3. The reg key was succesful.

After ComboFix the popups stopped in Firefox and the AVG scans didn't show any Trojans and especially the Agent_r one. I noticed my computer was working all the time (hard disk working) but now it stopped. Maybe it was the Windows recovery point 'cause I deleted them all to be sure no infections are in there

Let's just do this then to be on the safe side:

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Fcopy::
    C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-explorer_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_518afd35db100430\explorer.exe | C:\Windows\explorer.exe

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

Let me know how things are running.

Yes, I would rather you just receive help here and not at the other forum because it is a complete waste of resources, cross posting is not considered good form. :)

Ok, I will do so! :)
    I really appreciate your help!

Here are the logs from ComboFix and MGTools

During the procedure I disconnected from the internet to deactivate AVG Free to run ComboFix.

After ComboFix procedure I got a message that the Recycle Bin has been damaged and if I want to fix it by cleaning it and clicked "Yes"

So far nothing suspicious, just hope there are no rootkits or something else running in background. My system is running normally.

Run this to cover all bases. If it comes up clean, then I am going to give you final steps

    • Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter ( the quotes are required).
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v

    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called "TDSSKiller.txt" please attach this log to your next reply.

    Excellent. :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
