Trojan.FakeAlert - from eBay ads through Java?!

    I was browsing the Web, I think I was on eBay when I noticed Firefox (3.6.13) asking on top of eBay tab that "the website requires installing additional add-ins" (which I didn't touch), and my Comodo Firewall saying at the same time that a very obscure filename .exe (which I hadn't launched) is trying to connect to the Internet. Denied that, this time C:\ProgramData\bDpCcJi06308\bDpCcJi06308.exe wanted to connect. Denied that, but it had installed itself anyway. AVG real time protection didn't detect anything. That happened around 2011-02-27 20:26 local time.

    Anyway, now it started killing my processes and demanding I pay for the fake Anti-Virus, business as usual.

    Rebooted into Safe mode, HJT had the following entry:
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [bDpCcJi06308] C:\ProgramData\bDpCcJi06308\bDpCcJi06308.exe

    Renamed the file (317952 bytes), removed the registry entry. Same folder had another file (98 bytes), same name, no extension.

    MBAB detected a Trojan.FakeAlert in the bDpCcJi06308.exe but also it found a file with the same length and only 4 byte diff in Java cache:
    c:\programdata\bdpccji06308_really_bad_virus\bdpccji06308.really_bad_exe (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
    c:\Users\Jurrr\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\deployment\cache\6.0\25\582900d9-58bfec26 (Trojan.FakeAlert) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

    The corresponding .idx file in Java cache links to:

    I inserted "REMOVE" in the middle of the link so noone can launch it by accident. That is a known malware site.

    So I think there was a rogue ad at eBay which used a Java applet security hole to install malware. I hope I removed all the malware.

    Do you think my system is clean now? No keyloggers/rootkits?

    HJT, DDS and MBRCheck logs - after cleanup - are attached. GMER won't run right due to 64-bit Windows.

    P.S. Will update my Java, it was too old :(.

    P.P.S. MBAB, after cleanup:

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    My system has no further symptoms and the tools don't detect anything. Still, I'm not sure if it means my system is clean.

    How do you know what the tools detect? Can you interpret the logs from Combofix and MGTools? :)

    If you are not sure, best thing to do is attach all of the requested logs so that I can verify you are clean or not.
