Trojan Problem

Recently, while playing a game on my laptop it started to lag so I quit the game waiting for the laptop to get to normal RAM and CPU usage... But it didn't. I used Ctrl + Alt + Del and in the processes tab I saw a process named "lssas.exe". I googled it and what I found was that it probably is the WIN32.AGOBOT.RL Trojan. I ran scans using Mcafee, SUPERAntiSpyware and SpyEmergency and they found nothing but some tracking cookies. I also typed msconfig to see which programs execute on system startup and it also was there. Even Though I disabled it there it still executes when my PC starts.

In the processes the path I get for the process is "C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming\lssas.exe" but I cannot find anything there.
I also read in some other forum that the trojan I mentioned above comes with a file named "msnupdateit.exe" but I cannot find it.
On the Mcafee community I read about HIJACKTHIS so I used it...
I don't know if it's any use but my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
    Here's the log:

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

I should start saying that my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which means that while running the scans etc I did not use RootRepeal and Combofix.

I ran scans using SuperAntispyware and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. The logs are attached below. There were no significant changes compared to the other scans. I also uninstalled Mcafee. When I uninstalled it many hidden files were finally revealed and I have no idea why. I also found here (c:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming) a file named lssas.exe which I had not found in this directory when I had Mcafee installed. It should also be noted here that I had disabled the hiding of hidden files before I uninstalled Mcafee. Should I just delete that file? None of the antispyware programs did anything to it and I'm quite sure it should not be there or anywhere else in my system.

Last but not least I used MGtools and its logs are also attached below. (I forgot to mention I also used CCleaner).

And I only have one more question. In case I have a trojan in my system is there a possibility that it will spread to my Ubuntu-Linux partition?

I also want to thank you for your quick reply last time.

    Sorry for the delay.

Continue by downloading a tool we will need - Pocket KillBox

Save it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:

    * Delete on Reboot
    * then Click on the All Files button.*(or on the folders option)*
    * Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
    C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming\lssas.exe
    C:\Windows\1C4551A64743409391E41477CD655043.TMP

    * Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    * Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.

If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Well, since I really needed to use my laptop I manually deleted the C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming\lssas.exe and the registry entry three days ago.

But I decided to do what you told me so I used the notepad, pasted what you told me to, when merging it with the registry I got a success message but when I tried to run the Killbox I get an error message which says :

Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependecies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

So, does that have anything to do with what I did alone? Did I destroy my laptop? The process lssas.exe isn't there anymore so I thought I had deleted it.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you manually removed only the C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Roaming\lssas.exe and the C:\Windows\1C4551A64743409391E41477CD655043.TMP files. lssas.exe can be a legit system file, but not in that location. :)

What issues are you still having?

Well, actually nothing's wrong with it now. Just one more question and I'm done.
Why could I not run the Killbox? Thank you so much for your help through my problem!

I don't know why PocketKillBox wouldn't run for you. We also see RootRepeal not running on many systems.

You are very welcome. Safe surfing. :)
