    Hi everyone!

am new here, so sorry if this post isn't in the right place..

am having trouble with the win32autorun.tmp worm. can't seem to remove it.
Spybot s&d picked it up (none of the other programs detected it) and when i select to fix selected problems - spybot told me that i wasn't ab adminstrator and therefor couldn't remove the selcted file.

After that i went to the Start menu and choose to run spybot as administrator (although i'm the only user on this computer) but the admistrator message just keeps poping back up.

I've seen all sorts of posts here on the subject, but everybody's posting all sorts of log files and talking about all sorts of programes i've never heard about... am so confused.. HELP!

any help would be MUCH appreciated.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hi,

Ok, so in the meantime nothing has worked.
I've followed all of the directions posted here but the win32.autorun.tmp file still seems to be "living".

From searching in other forums i've seen that the worm copies itself and uses the file name: wuauclt.exe -- which i found on my system. Of course i tried to delete them - but it of course wouldn't let me. Just like Spybot it told me i wasn't an adminstrator (which i am).

How can i get rid of this thing? is there a file killer program of some sort??

    thanks

    Update:
I'm trying to run some online scans with different programs - and they all tell me i'm not an adminstrator... this seems to be the worms doing i'm guessing...

Hi there. Let me just step in and ask a couple questions.
If you are saying you have followed ALL of the directions, then why have you neglected to attach logs like we request? We can indeed help, but without the logs it is impossible I am afraid.
You should not be trying to delete anything on your own!
Yes! The programs you have seen everyone else running, some of which are programs that can remove malware some of which are just scanners, information collectors, which they attach logs from. As stated in the instructions, if something does NOT work, then simply skip that step and move onto the next. So far you have not attached anything, and you were not specific enough for me to know what you ran and what you didn't.
You're most welcome. :) I know it seems overwhelming, but those instructions are crystal clear, and with our guidance you will get through it just fine. Then the work on removing the malware can begin.

    Hi Kestrel13!

Thank you so much for you answer - it was very detailed!

From what I understood i was supposed to uninstall all but one anti virus program and run cclean then clean windows. I did all that but like i wrote that didn't help. Then i looked for further instructions but couldn't find any posts as to what to do so that's why i wrote again - what log file was i supposed to post? there where many that i ran.

Anyway, I gave the computer to one of the IT guys from my work and he sorted it out for me.

I appreciate all the willingness to help out - it's not taken for granted!

    Thank so much again

For future reference, you should have attached these logs that are requested from doing the Read and Run First instructions:
    SAS
    MBAM
    RootRepeal
    ComboFix
    C:\MGLogs.zip.

Good to know you are fixed. Let's hope there isn't a next time. ;)
