Hi Knots needing help. I notice that everytime I log on to MSN Messenger - I now get a message about scripts namely "Unterminated string constant".

    It says:
    Line: 1
    Char: 207
    Error: Unterminated string constant
    Code: 0
    URL: http://rad.msn.com/ADSAdClient31.dll?GetAd?PG=IMSCB2?SC=HF?ID=000123574c2bb7a

Then it says Do you want to continue running the scripts on this page?

NO matter what I choose it Messenger seems to work fine.

I also noticed that when I log into Hi5.com - there are pop-ups try to show up. I have my blocker on. Then one day the ads just started appearing. I ran Ad-Aware and CClean and Spy bot but i didnt really help. I tried HSremove and so far so good.

I dont know if this is all connected. Please help

HSremove is a tool for helping with HSA hijackers not popups. You probably do not need it.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Did the readme and it worked at first. Now the string error message is back. As for hi5, I blocked the popups and added the blocked sites to my restricted list and now I can't see all the graphics on that page.

    Help

I don't believe this is a malware issue. And your log does not show any real malware problems. Either there is something in the page itself that is bad or there is some configuration issue with MSN. I believe the site you list is where MSN download their ads from.

One article I found matching your Error is: http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_833588.aspx

But I'm not sure it is related to your problem.

You may want to try posting this in the Software Forum.

Re: "Unterminated string constant" and now other issues

 Thank you guys for your help thus far.

I have attached the log file from Spybot because I notice I've seen these results before. Please let me get your feedback. I find it strange that the pop-ups are appearing now even the setting has them off.

Re: "Unterminated string constant" and now other issues

There are no problems in your Spybot log. Those are just warnings that indicate you have modified from the default Windows Security center settings. This is due to McAfee being used.

What do your popup ads say? Perhaps they are just normal for the site you are going to. Maybe you should just use a browser like FireFox with built in popup blocking.

You can try running the following to see if it finds anything: Running Ewido Security Suite

Thanks Chaslang for your help. The Ewildo scan found seven errors and fixed them. MSN still loads with the error message and I remember after running some spyware scans, it did run correctly without errors. The pop-ups still come with hi5.

    I repeat my previous question:

You were supposed to post the Ewido log.

I'm still not convinced that you problem with MSN is from malware.

Hi again. I saved the Ewildo log and then when I ran it again, I saved over it. SORRY.

    The pop-ups say media.fastclick.net or cdn.media.fastclick.net

Thanks for the help as always.

Go back and to the READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support again and this time, make sure you run all of what it says in the third item under step 6:

The key is to make sure you immunize! This usually takes care of fastclick.

Thank you so much on the MSN M. tip - :) It worked.

I have actually uninstalled MS. Spyware because it asked me to change my homepage and I got in trouble with that program before when I had lop.com spyware.

I re-ran Ad-Aware and it found just a few cookies. Spybot found the same to entries that I had posted before. I also ran CCleaner.

So far the pop-ups have not come back with Hi5. Thank you very much.

It is not asking you to change your home page. It is advising you that something was attempting to change the home page based upon the last snapshot that it had taken. If you wanted the change to take place, all you have to do is approve it. It is a protection mechanism put in place to protect you from hijackers. It is possible that when you had a LOP infection that it was easier to remove without MS Antispyware installed (or maybe at a minimum, disabled). However having it running before the LOP infection occurred may have helped to stop it.

Thanks for clarifying. I'll reload it. Have a good weekend.
