    Hello all

    Hello all at Major Geeks

I am having some unusual issues with my Dell laptop running Win7.

When I start up my laptop i am met with this message :

    Remote procedure call cannot start.

I have also ran Combofix and this found these issues :

    c:\windows\system32\%appdata%

Combofix could not remove this file:

    whitedir01

I have also ran these scanners

    Malwarebytes
    Superantispyware
    Trend Micro Housecall
    Eset Online scanner
    Adaware
    Spybot search and destroy
    Spyware terminater
    Bitdefender online scanner
    Panda cloud scanner

    These found NO Problems/Malware

I am also usually very careful about my online activity and downloads but I thik this may be a Malware issue.

Can anybody at Major Geeks help me to make sure my system is safe and secure ?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
May be a problem with your Windows installation and could be big trouble, however to rule out malware, you really need to do all of the below and attach the requested logs. Without the logs, we do not have proper information on what is going on with your PC.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hello

Thank You for taking the time to help me.

I have read the Malware removal guide you suggested and tried to run all the applications I was advised too.

Unfortunately I was unable to Run Rootrepeal and MGTools wont create an MGlogs.zip file anywhere for me to post back.

I managed to Run SuperantiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Combofix and i will attacth the logs to this post.

When I ran Superanti spyware after a couple of mins all my desktop disapears and all I cann is My walpaper. I can only see my desktop again by pressing ctrl + alt + del and opening Task manager and the clicking file Run new task and entering explorer.exe and then click okay to restart windows explorer.exe.

Also when I run Combofix. it starts okay but then i am met with an error Message that says :

    mbr.cfxxe has stoped working and
    MBR.exe Has Stopped Working

I click close program it does not close program but then Combofix run as normal.

As I mentioned at the begining of this post I was UNABLE to run either Rootrepeal.exe or MGTools.exe.

When I try to Run Rootrepeal.exe it starts and I can see the program window But it says this error :

Rootrepeal Error FOPS - DeviceIO Control
    Error Code = 0x0000024
    Extended Info ( 0x000000fc)

And If i Click the scan button on the rootrepeal window I am given this Error :
    Device Control Error
    Error Code OxO

I Also cannot save anything to my C:/ root folder.
When I try to save something in It I am met with this error :

Could Not Save to C:/ Not Have Permission.
I am then asked if I want to save to My home Folder.

So I was unable to save either Rootrepeal or MGTools to My Root C:\ folder because of permission problems.

Also MGTools seems to run successfuly but does not create A log file called MGLogs.zip which is the log file I am asked to attacth to my next post. So I cannot attatch the MGTools scan log file.

What Can I do to correct the Rootrepeal.exe and MGTools.exe problems ?

I have tried over the last few days to sort this out but I have been unable to fix this.

Thank's a lot for taking the time to help me.

I have also attacthed The rootrepeal error log file that appears when I try to run A Rootrepeal scan.

I look forward to your reply's

    Ignore RootRepeal for now.

Since your Desktop folder is located on the same drive as your Windows installation, you can save MGtools.exe to your Desktop and run it from there. Make sure that you have UAC disabled and also make sure you use Run As Administrator as specified in the instructions.

What malware problems are or were you having?

All I see is that you have been installing and still have installed, way too many security applications. Apparently you did not read the beginning of the READ & RUN ME. You have all of the below and based on your logs, there have been others too:

    Ad-Aware
    CA Yahoo! Anti-Spy (remove only)
    Norton Internet Security
    Panda Cloud Antivirus
    Spyware Terminator

And I still see part of PC Tools running too.

Also you appear to be download more and also cracks!!!
    Code:
    "C:\Users\Mark\Desktop\"
    esetsm~1.exe 22 Apr 2010 2672312 "esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe"
    kasper~1.txt 9 Apr 2010 23 "Kaspersk2 IS 2010 Key.txt"
    kis900~1.exe 9 Apr 2010 78820608 "kis9.0.0.736en-uk.exe"

The files you point out to be cracks are Not.

All are downloaded from the original proper reputable Eset and Kaspersky sites.

I put My Kaspersky 6 month free licence key that I got free with a reputable PC magazine promotion into A text file which I have named myself it seems incorrectly to :

Kaspersk2 IS 2010 Key <<<< I misspelled this text file created it. all it contains is my 6 month Kaspersky AV license key.

kis9.0.0.736en-uk.exe <<<< This is the the Kaspersky AV stup.exe file downloaded from Kaspersky.co.uk I was going to use to install Kaspersky AV using my own Kaspersky proper licence key.

esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe <<<<< And lastly this is the Eset online scanner installation file I download from Eset.co.uk.

This is he only was I can download and run Eset online scanner because I use firefox as My default browser.

So none of these are cracks.

The problem I have is what I mentioned in my first post about Remote procedure call not starting correctly.

This is not a problem any more.

But the issue still concerning me is the original Combofix scan that found these 2 issues and could not delete 1 of the problems.

    Combofix could not delete

    whitdir01

When I originally ran Combofix it found these issues :

c:\windows\system32\%appdata% <<< Combofix removed this issue successfuly

Combofix could not remove this file:

    whitedir01

I wanted to know if possible what these 2 issues are and why one of them could not be removed.

I have searched extensively but i have found nothing that makes much sense.

I also wanted to know (if possible) why i am having the 2 problems. and try to find a solution so I do not have the same problem in the future.

I installed the extra security applications to run various scans to make sure there was no malware on my system. I will remove many of them as soon as I know I am safe.

None of the security applications apart from one are running real time scanners on my system. the others i just run as stand alone scanners. and then disable them after i have used them.

I really just want to know that I am safe.
And if there are any other steps i should take to make sure i am.

    thanks again

I think you have you message wrong. Combofix probably said something like:

"system cannot find the file whitedir01"

And this is just a problem with the running of ComboFix and not an issue.

Not a good thing to do before others are completely uninstalled. It can cause more harm than good. Just having them installed at the same time can cause issues within the registry and within security center. It does not matter if they are running at the same time.

    Your logs were all clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
