    Welcome to Major Geeks!

If you think that you are having malware problems, you need to run our complete cleaning procedure. MGtools is the last step, not the first.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Your logs are all clean. You are not having malware problems.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Excuse me????? a 500 times increase in upload traffic isn't malware????

I ran in safe mode with networking, and didn't see a lot of extra traffic. Thunderbird doesn't appear to be THE problem, I get a ridiculous amount of traffic even when it isnt running. Is it possible that I have a mailer forwarding through my gmail account??? (I'm clutching at straws here)

I know that nothing I'm running is uploading nearly a Tb each month. Last month my UPLOAD traffic was 977,725,000,000 bytes. back in april my upload traffic was 1,971,000,000 bytes This is a 496 times increase.

I am running a dual boot system that I really would rather not rebuild if I can possibly help it.

    arp -a shows:
(in addition to the expected local addresses)
    224.0.0.2 01-00-5e-00-00-02 static
    224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static
    224.0.0.252 01-00-5e-00-00-fc static
    224.0.0.253 01-00-5e-00-00-fd static
    238.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static
    239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static

which I have blocked in firewall as these addresses don't appear to be legit (although I have not done an exhaustive search) the first couple are listed as mcast.net (comcast, my isp) routers, but blocking them doesn't seem to have affected anything (other than to slow the hemorrhage of uploaded data.) I am using a Dlink router, I of course did not block those addresses

cleared the addresses above and these came right back. ET phone home address???
    224.0.0.252 01-00-5e-00-00-fc static
    239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static

    (using local area connection status)
    7,638,870 bytes sent at 1:27
    7,638,870 bytes sent at 1:36
7,643,093 bytes sent at 1:37 (4223 bytes -- picked up address of my server in arp)
7,643,093 bytes sent at 2:08 30+ minutes with NO sent traffic!!!!!
7,647,463 bytes sent at 2:08 (4370 bytes -- apparently checks in with server every 30 minutes)

At this point I guess I consider the patient stabilized still need to rid it of infection!

7,657,350 bytes sent at 3:28 (9887 bytes. consistant with 2 of above)

    (quicktime update applied)

    8,629,695 bytes sent at 3:34

    (some internet activity)

    8,738,187 bytes sent at 3:41
8,783,269 bytes sent 7:39 45082 ~ 5635 bytes / 30 minutes still pretty consistent with the above levels

I am blocking what ever is running with the firewall, but I really would prefer a bit more permanent fix.

Please are there any more suggestions that you can make? I have been making my living fixing computers for most of the last 33 years, and this has me tearing my hair out, and there isn't a lot of that left! If it was an easy one, I'd like to think that I would have fixed it already!!

Not according to your logs. It may be something that you are running. Especially since you say it does not happen in safe boot mode. Perhaps somethings that you are doing with TotalMedia 3.5. If your upload numbers are really correct, it would seem that perhaps you are hosting video uploads.

These are multi-cast IP addesses which are use for multi-cast video/streaming video...etc. You did state in your first message you are streaming videos..

If you want to see what packets are coming and going and from/to what addresses, you can use a packet capture/sniffing tool like the below to do this.

    Wireshark
