Trying to clean up a computer that someone else originally tried to clean.

Started with FBI Moneypak. Ran a bunch of programs, after googling.

Next Win64/Patched.A seemed to be the problem. More googling and program running.

    Now scan finds:

    Trojan.Dropper.BCMinor
    Rootkit.OAcess
    Rootkit.OAcess.64

Also Adobe Flash keeps popping up non-stop wanting to update.

Since over a dozen programs have been run to try and "fix" things; where do I start in order to get assistance here?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST

Okay you have quite a few infections. We need to collect some additional information with another tool and then we will start fixing things using this same tool.

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan.

For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)
And now goto Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the below:
    Babylon toolbar

Also it you see anything saying Yontoo or Yontoo Layers, uninstall it too.

And finally do the below. You may not see all the items being mentioned. Just address what you do find and ignore what you do not see.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: Babylon toolbar helper - {2EECD738-5844-4a99-B4B6-146BF802613B} - C:\Program Files (x86)\BabylonToolbar\BabylonToolbar\1.8.3.8\bh\BabylonToolbar.dll
    O2 - BHO: Yontoo Layers - {FD72061E-9FDE-484D-A58A-0BAB4151CAD8} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Yontoo\YontooIEClient.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Babylon Toolbar - {98889811-442D-49dd-99D7-DC866BE87DBC} - C:\Program Files (x86)\BabylonToolbar\BabylonToolbar\1.8.3.8\BabylonToolbarTlbr.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Del1166903] cmd.exe /c del "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\0.del"
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [Del1166903] cmd.exe /c del "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\0.del"

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Attached.

I did not see how to do this from System Recovery Options. So I exited SRO, rebooted in Safe Mode and went in to Control Panel. I was able to remove Babylon toolbar. I could not remove Yontoo 1.10.02, I kept getting an error message: Tarma Installer - Setup initialization error.

I accidently ran MGtools (from my desktop) first, before realizing how to access the program mentioned (analyse). Neither of the Babylon toolbar lines were there. So I selected the other four.

Download this >> View attachment fixlist.txt

Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.
Now reboot back into the System Recovery Options as you did previously.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (See how to attach)

Now see if you can boot into normal ( not safe mode ) Windows. If you can then continue with the below.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • Fixlog.txt from FRST
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    • Attached.
    So far things seem fine.

Is this file removed\replaced during the process? I don't see it on my flashdrive now, though I thought I checked and it was there before. Just concerned that I did the process without this being where you said to put it.

    No.

See if you can now use the below to uninstall Yontoo:

    Revo Uninstaller

Now please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right-click OTM.exe and select Run as administrator to run it.
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe
    :Files
    C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\DownloadManagerSetup.exe
    C:\ProgramData\Babylon
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Yontoo

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0ECDF796-C2DC-4d79-A620-CCE0C0A66CC9}]

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista or Win7, make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:

    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

When I use this, it does NOT show the Yontoo 1.10.02 app, that I see going in through Control Panel=>Programs and Features. So I couldn't uninstall with this.

    Attached.

The Adobe Flash player has not been constantly popping up for install update, like before. Haven't ran AVG or Malwarebyte since you last instructed me to.

You need to boot in normal boot mode and run MGtools there. Then attach the new MGlogs.zip file. We always want everything run in normal boot mode unless it is impossible to run in normal boot mode and if this is the case, you would need to tell us this.

Okay Yontoo appears to be gone now, but there is some damage to Windows from your infection. For example the Windows Firewall service is broken.

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Repair Windows Firewall
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Set Windows Services To Default Startup
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Does it matter if it is still there when I go through Control Panel=>Programs and Features?

    Ran and attached.

Okay it is back now. This is due to an issue that occurs with 64 bit vs 32 bit processes and how MGtools runs from the MGtools.exe file versus how it runs when you run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file.

Try the below with the Windows Registry Editor.

Click Start and in the Search box type regedit and look for the Registry Editor ( regedit.exe ) icon to appear above. Right click on it and select Run As Administrator.

When it opens click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry hive name then in the top menu select Edit.

Then select Find. In the Find what: box enter Yontoo and click Find. See if you can locate and delete the Yontoo entry. The one that appears in Control Panel is likely coming from a registry key like one of the below:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

  15. Arlen92108

    Arlen92108 Private E-2

Did this, but Yontoo still appears when I look through Control Panel=>Programs and Features.

Besides that, computer has been working fine.

The you did not find the occurrence of it in the registry. Try the below.

Please download SystemLook_x64 from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1

    Download Mirror #2
    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :regfind
      Yontoo
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. You can just close this notepad window since the log is already saved on your Desktop. Be patient! It may look like it is not doing anything, but it takes awhile for this to scan thru your whole system look for matches.
    • Please attach the SystemLook.txt log found on your Desktop to next reply.

    You're welcome.
    Thanks!. :)

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now rerun the same SystemLook scan and attach the new log. Also tell me whether you still see Yontoo anywhere.

    Excellent.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
