No Sound / Realtek HD Audio 2.0.9.8 / mobo

    Hello there, Musksnipe!

I have read this entire discussion from the start till the end.
    I too, have an ASRock ConRoe 1333 - D667 R1.0 mobo.
    I too, have NO SOUND!

I started suffering some bluescreens since a while ago, and now i completely reinstalled windows XP (!not 2k, but had XP before this too). Before this re-install, sound was working perfectly. I am not sure where the problem might be, but the pc simply doesn't detect any audio hardware. I have tried most steps from this discussion, and my vendor is far away so i'd rather fix the problem myself.

I also get WMP errors, but i think thats just a consequence of the missing audio detection.

Anyways, we're a few months further and i hope there has been some development since the last post. If so, i'd love to hear them, if not, ill keep you posted till i get the solution (perhaps from the vendor).

    Gz Sjors

EDIT: I just got this message from MSN Messenger: Your computer does not have a sound card, or a sound card is not selected.

    1) In Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    2) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver.
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    3) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (you may just have a folder that says Realtek) through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    KB888111
In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer.
To work around this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.

Install the chipset driver for your board, first..
    INF driver ver:8.1.1.1001.zip

    This is the audio driver:
Realtek high definition audio driver ver:R1.47.zip

Both are .zip files. Extract the download to a new folder, in a place where you can find it. Then double-click the setup.exe file.

By this time I can start trying things, but I think I should explain my situation first. I might be doing something very wrong, so I'll just tell you what's in my Device Manager.

    1) Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
Tab Sound, vid & game controlllers:
    -Audiocodecs
    -Legacy-audiodrivers
    -Legacy-videocapdevices
    -Mediacontroldevices
    -Videocodecs
I don't know wich one is the HD or Unknown device.

    2) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver. Disable the device and then uninstall it.
I got a list under system, wich is huge. And the closest word coming to UAA Hi-Def Bus driver might be my "PCI-Bus" and it seems to work.
From this list, i got one "!" at my PCI-Device... might say something, might not.

    3) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (you may just have a folder that says Realtek) through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
Somehow i felt the urge to check step 1 and 2 before doing this.
"KB888111" --> I didnt really get this yet, but i assume this is about de-installing my REALTEK Software.

In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
This one is supposed to be on my list too? - if NO, ill run the steps you described earlier, but im gonna wait for your advice.

Install the chipset driver for your board, first..
    INF driver ver:8.1.1.1001.zip
    - DONE

    This is the audio driver:
Realtek high definition audio driver ver:R1.47.zip
    - GOT IT

Both are .zip files. Extract the download to a new folder, in a place where you can find it. Then double-click the setup.exe file. - AWARE OF IT

    Thanks in advance :foolish
    The solution is near ^^

OK, it looks like you don't have a full install of your drivers, so....
There is nothing to do here.
That is probably the right one. It didn't install properly, either. Uninstall it.
Yes, this is all part of removing Realtek. It does not like to install the HD audio over itself.
It may or may not be there, but must be looked for to be sure. (It may have been in the Realtek folder or not there at all)

This is a compilation of fixes. Some may pertain to you, some may not, but it is best to check it all, so that we don't have to go back over it.
I have struggled with getting a set fix for Realtek and every time I think I have it, another problem pops up. :banghead

Allrightey, i am back online. I just spoke to a friend of mine to analyse the whole deal, and he came to the conclusion that i accidently installed windows 3x to my pc. But i had my backup ready so we could re-install the whole OS immediatley. I'm reinstalling all software, and i haven't started on the mobo part yet.

So in short- im totally fresh, and if it doesnt/does work, ill give you an update right away.

p.s. thanks for the help so far, if it doesnt work now, ill re-do all steps /w all posts you just posted, and then give you another update :D

    greetings from Holland :p

If you are doing a fresh install, install your chipset, audio, all other drivers, then your software.
