    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Let's complete the below and see what gives:

    Before we continue I would like for you to use MSCONFIG and put this machine back into NORMAL start up please.

    Let's run this check:

    Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please copy that report to this thread

    Go to uninstall a program and remove this outdated Java:
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 17

    If you did not set this proxy yourself then please include it in our fixables below:

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Combofix didn't seem to run to completion last time, be sure not to touch any keys or mouse around at all during it's run.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    EMebDrv

    File::
    C:\Users\ADMINI~1\AppData\Local\Temp\EMebDrv.sys
    C:\Windows\TEMP\100.dat
    C:\Windows\TEMP\HTT18AC.tmp
    C:\Windows\TEMP\HTT5826.tmp
    C:\Windows\TEMP\HTTA23C.tmp
    C:\Windows\TEMP\HTTF167.tmp
    C:\Windows\TEMP\HTTF168.tmp

    Folder::
    C:\Windows\TEMP\Low

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

    Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also the report from MBRCheck.exe

    Is NOD still complaining? Let me know how things are running! :)

  6. baw3187

    NOD is still complaining. I've followed everything you've asked to point in the previous thread. That proxy is mine and is legit.

    Your infection is in your Master Boot Record (MBR). We need to see the below log before creating a fix.
    • Download bootkit_remover.rar
    • Click the underlined DOWNLOAD text to download the file and save it to your Desktop.
    • You then need to extract the remover.exe file from the RAR using a program capable of extracing RAR compressed files. If you don't have an extraction program, you can use 7-Zip
    • After extracing remover.exe to your Desktop, double click the remover.exe file to run the program.
    • Attach or post inline here, the output from remover.exe
    NOTE: The Command Prompt window text can be copied to the clip board by right clicking on the top bar of the window and using the Edit commands to Mark, Copy, and Paste.

    Also I need to ask some questions:
    1. Do you have any drives that has a non-windows installation on them
    2. Are all drives NTFS formatted
    3. Do you have any non-standard or special MBRs which can occur from companies like Dell or HP who frequently install additional partitions used for recovery partitions in lieu of giving CD/DVDs.
    4. Is any program like Grub ( see:http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/ ) being used
    5. Is drive-encryption being used?
    6. Are any drives external USB pen drives or external hard drives being used?
    7. VERY IMPORTANT: Do you have all important data backed up? You really should do this before continuing since we will need to rewrite your MBR to fix this and while most times this can be done without any problem, these infections can react badly and that could result in a PC not being bootable. You really don't have much choice though since these infections are too dangerous to your security to leave on a PC.

    Since Kestrel also had you run the MBRCheck program, then let's try using it to remove the infection:

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Well, I am not happy with that, so let's run it again.

    * Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    * It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
    o Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    * Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
    o Found non-standard or infected MBR.
    o Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    * Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    * MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    * Attach this log to your next message.

    Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Windows\temp\100.dat

    That's what I though. Let's do this again.

    * Run MBRCheck.exe
    * Wait until you see the following lines:
    o Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    o Options:
    [1] Dump the MBR of a physical disk to file.
    [2] Restore the MBR of a physical disk with a standard boot code.
    [3] Exit.
    Enter your choice:

    * Please push the 'Y' key and then press Enter
    * When the program asks you to Enter your choice: enter 2 to Restore the MBR and press the Enter key
    * Now the program will ask you to "Enter the physical disk number to fix (0-99, -1 to cancel):"

    • Enter 0 and press the Enter key.
    * The program will show Available MBR codes as below

    * You need to select your version of Windows from the list. For example, enter 0 or 1 for XP or enter 3 for Vista.....etc. and then press Enter.
    * The program will prompt for confirmation. Type 'YES' and hit Enter.
    * Left click on the title bar (where program name and path is written). From menu chose Edit -> Select All
    * You will see all the text in the window get highlighted.
    * Hit the Enter key on your keyboard to copy all of the text into the clipboard.
    * Paste that text into Notepad, save it to your desktop as MBRfix.txt
    * Restart your PC.
    * Attach the MBRfix.txt file to your next message..

    Did you enter:
    Enter the physical disk number to fix (0-99, -1 to cancel): 3 ? For Vista?

    I know this is confusing, but you have to enter the physical disc as o and the mbr code to 3 for vista.

    positive, because its not confusing in the least.

    Ok, then lets recheck it by * Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    * It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:

    • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    * Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:

    • Found non-standard or infected MBR.

    winboot.exe is malware. It may have corrupted your system files. What is the exact message?

  24. baw3187

    baw3187 Private E-2

    sorry its winload.exe

    it says

    windows has failed to start

    file: \windows\system32\winload.exe
    status: 0xc000000e

  25. TimW

    TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

    That's not good. If you ran the MBRCheck to replace the MBR in Vista, it should not have removed that file.

    You will need to boot into the Windows Recovery Environment.

    To fix the corrupted Winload.exe file, use the Windows Recovery Environment. To do so, use the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialogue box and choose the operating system to repair.

    Conversely, you can try running fixboot from the command prompt in the recovery Environment.

    Not a problem. As I said, I don't think you will be any worse off. If it does what it says it will do, burn the iso and see if you can't in fact get into the Recovery Environment.
