Windows 7 Home Premium Gateway Won't Boot Up

    My laptop said there were new updates. I went to the Windows update site and saw there were 159 new ones (important updates, not optional). I was going to be gone for an hour and just selected all of them. When I got home, it said all had been installed successfully and to reboot to complete. Now all it does is loop...Gateway and go black, then repeat until I just power it off. The longest I've let it loop is about 90 minutes. Can anything be done short of a new drive or a 'boot and nuke'?

    No, that was another laptop that this one replaced.

    Not if all it does it loop shows black and never loads a thing.
    I assume you've tried safe mode and got the same results.

    It did work today in safe mode but the cursor wouldn't move.

    Please clarify. You were able to boot into safe mode but the mouse isn't working? Is that correct? If so, then it really isn't working in safe mode.

    If you have a mouse attached, remove it, make sure the trackpad is on and try rebooting into safe mode again. Does the cursor move?
