Windows Defender Virus?

If I'm using Mozilla Firefox, I will, occasionally, get a red screen telling me I have encountered a serious virus and to call tech support immediately (there is a number to call, but the screen doesn't tell you who tech support is or who they represent). There is a cursor moving rapidly all over the screen as a distraction, but my cursor works. No clicks on any exit "X" work though. I appear locked into this screen. It's obviously malware or at least a bad website and I always go to Task Manager and shut Firefox down. Besides Firefox, I also use Avast! Safe Zone (which I think is an Avast-modified version of Google Chrome) and have never had this happen with it. Any idea if this is malware or if I'm getting directed somehow to a bad website? I plan on running the malware protocol from this website, if the consensus is malwre, but would like to know what I'm dealing with. Any thoughts?

You do have Malware, so the correct forum is the SPECIALIST Malware Forum and not this one, but before you post there you must carry out all the steps for your Operating System in the READ & RUN ME FIRST MALWARE REMOVAL GUIDE and you then post a new thread with all the scan logs attached. Then a trained Malware Expert will help you further. Be sure not to post that thread or logs here but in the forum linked to above.

Just a friendly heads up while you wait for the experts in the Specialist Forum, your post in that forum is missing the MGTools scan log. You will need to run that and post there the file.

Max, I appreciate your reply, however...
MGTools batchfile is still not running successfully (i.e., downloading MG Tools), as noted in my message in the Experts forum. It has problems with NTVDM.exe, a 16 bit file it apparently needs and can't find. Says I need to get my administrator to give me the appropriate privileges. Problem is, I am the administrator....
Bottom line: MGTools still won't run because it won't download, so it can't produce the MGTools scan log.

That's great - hopefully they will advise further.
