    My comp is still acting up. It all began yesterday after I dloaded and installed a copy of Daemon Tools Lite. Once I installed this program, my comp started running WinXDefender when I would login to my Windows account. Also, as I described earlier, when i navigate through web sites in Internet Explorer, I always get redirected to an advertisement or pop-up. One other thing I noticed is that now when I go to the Start menu, the IE icon no longer displays. It contains the icon that displays next to a file/application when the program that created the file/application is not located on your comp. Thank you

    See step 1 of the READ ME again. You MUST NOT use MSconfig to control startups. Please put your PC into Normal Startup mode now and remain in normal startup mode. I cannot give you a fix now due to you not following this instruction. After you do this, reboot your PC and then do the below.

    Uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as requested in step 1 of the READ ME.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

    Sorry about that. I know when i first began READ ME I went into MSconfig and changed the startup to Normal Mode. I guess sometime after rebooting from all the dloads and installs, it got reset. However, i have uninstalled Viewpoint Media Player (i did overlook this the first go-round) and ran the Getlogs.bat file with a normal startup. The log file is attached below...

    Okay run this procedure: Trojan.Win32.Agent.akk (aka IEDefender) Removal Procedure and attach the requested log when finished.

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\bin\jusched.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
    O16 - DPF: {B64F4A7C-97C9-11DA-8BDE-F66BAD1E3F3A} - http://scanner.defender-scanner.com/a/install1438.cab
    O21 - SSODL: zip - {d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3} - C:\WINDOWS2\Installer\{d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3}\zip.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now reboot your PC. After reboot, delete the below files:
    C:\winncok.exe
    C:\WINDOWS2\system32\hjkmp.bak1
    C:\WINDOWS2\Installer\{d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3}\zip.dll

    Now run Ccleaner!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created and don't forget the log from FixIEDef

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Uninstall AVG Antispyware now as it may be getting in our way. Also make sure you shut down AOL's Antispyware tools before doing the below.

    First please run this ViewpointKillerbecause Viewpoint is still there thanks to AOL.

    Now run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinXDefender] C:\Program Files\WinXDefender\WinXDefender.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DAEMON Tools Lite] "C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe" -autorun
    O4 - Startup: CCTray.lnk = C:\Program Files\CCTray\cctray.exe
    O21 - SSODL: zip - {d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3} - C:\WINDOWS2\Installer\{d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3}\zip.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    File::
    C:\Program Files\WinXDefender\WinXDefender.exe
    C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\daemon.exe
    C:\WINDOWS2\Installer\{d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3}\zip.dll

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files\WinXDefender
    C:\Documents and Settings\Chad_2\Application Data\DAEMON Tools
    C:\WINDOWS2\Installer\{d5e0b9ea-f3cd-4024-ae13-578cfba31ea3}

    Registry::
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "WinXDefender"=-
    "DAEMON Tools Lite"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
    "zip"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Also delete all files in the below folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Documents and Settings\Chad_2\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hey, my comps been running a lot better. No more interuptions while navigating page to page anymore. However on my Start Menu, Internet Explorer still isnt showing it's icon. It's showing the icon for when there isnt a program located on the comp that matches the file format. Im not sure if this makes a difference or not. I just noticed it had changed when the problems first began occuring. Well I thank you for helping me and I appreciate your patience. One last thing... I was wondering if there is any routine clean up work I shoud do now after removing the malware?

    This may require a registry patch to fix. I'm not sure what though. Someone in the Software Forum may be able to answer this. You could however try
    • right clicking Start and select Properties
    • then select Customize
    • the try changing the icon size from Large to Small (or Small to Large) based on whatever your current settings are.
    • Then click OK then click Apply.
    • The close the Properties form and see if there is a change.
    • If no change, open the Properties/Customize form again.
    • This time uncheck the Show on Start menu selection for Internet.
    • Click OK, then Apply and then exit out of the Properties form
    • Check your Start Menu now and you should not see an entry for Internet Explorer
    • Then go back to the same Customize form and recheck the Show on Start menu selection for Internet
    • Click OK, then Apply and then exit out of the Properties form
    Did any of this help? If not, seek help in the Software Forum.

    You're welcome. Your logs are clean. Now you need to get properly protected since you currently have none. This is covered in the below final steps.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the /U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    9. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    10. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    11. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    12. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    13. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
