I have been trying to remove the zeroAccess virus. I realized I had a problem when I opened my computer and everything was gone from my desktop and only my recycle bin was there. I did a scan with Norton Antivirus, and the zeroAccess virus showed up - 2 instances. However, Norton could not remove it. I've since run about 6 complete system scans, and each time I get back a few more icons. It's been a couple of weeks since I did that. Today, I was ready to get down to business, but everytime I click on something (to do your suggestions), I get a Windows Explorer has stopped working, then a Windows Explorer is restarting. It I finally got to my Control Panel to do the Java clean-up as you recommended, however, since I'm running in safe mode without internet access, I don't think I am seeing what I should. Please help - I've been out this for about 3 hours today, and have made absolutely no progress.....

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

What version of Windows are you running?

Please see if you can run the below procedure.

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky

Thank you so much for a reply!

I'm running Windows vista. I can't get to an internet connection on that computer. After reading some things on the internet, I had downloaded Spyhunter to a USB to put on the infected computer, but I can't even get "my computer" to open so I can access the USB to get it on my computer.

Do you have your Vista boot DVD?

You can download TDSSkiller to your USB drive. Can you run things in safe boot mode?

Spyhunter is not recommended anyway so it is just as well that you could not run it.

Yes, I have the Toshiba Recovery and Applications/Drivers disk that came with my computer. I cannot access my USB from that computer, even in safe mode with or without networking.
