RE: Can only get so far following guidance, STUCK!!

Have done the Read and run me first
Gone thru Add and Remove programs
    Set Msconfig to normal mode
    Downloaded CCleaner and SuperAntispyware

    ....but my problems begin here

when i tried to install CCleaner nothing happened same outcome with Superantispyware.

When i right clicked on either above files in Win exp no context menu came up, just the sand timer and i could be here until the cows come home waiting for something to happe. So whatever has infected me its buggered up my Win Explorer. When I try to boot into safe mode the computer just blue screens after loading driver muf.sys. Have no problem accessing drives or their files but the minute i try to install aforementioned files explorer does nothing. Have no trouble installing my wireless drivers which I have had to do.

    Any guidance would be appreciated

I should add that my processor is practically running at full tilt so at this time it seems the only way to begin to sort out this problem would be to boot off cd as its taking ages to do anything worthwhile. Am currently running panda scan and its taking forever :(

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please stay in one thread. Your new thread for the same problem has been deleted. We work threads in oldest to newest form so posting new threads will not help. You should read this: Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

See if the below addition instructions help you get further along. Remember to take notice that we specify not to stop!!!!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hi Chaslang,
Well things seem to be going from bad to worse as I now find I can't boot when I try to boot up normally i get the bsod immediately after the wins xp splash screen. When I try safe mode I again get the bsod. It does seem now that my only way forward is to either reinstall windows OS or try UBCD/BARTPE which is what I plan to do as I would like to get to the bottom of this malware. Not sure if you can help me anymore at this point but thank you for you input so far

    Fergus

You're welcome. If you need help with the BSOD, you should write down the exact word for word message and post it in the Software Forum.

Did you also try to boot using Last Known Good Confiuration?
Also did you try safe mode with Command Prompt?
