    :(
Hello. Thanks for any help in advance.
    Basically running Win XP sp2.
Internet search gets redirected to spam sites. tried to run HJT. I was able to install it to desktop, but when scan is clicked, it would start then stop abruptly without producing a log. This is true for other apps, like ad aware, Spybot, and McAfee.
Can't do a system restore either.
I was able to run ComboFix which produced a log. I was very careful and read through a lot of posts before I did this. I now have a ComboFix log to post, but still no HJT.
I'm getting desperate, thanks for your help again.
    Albert

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Please uninstall HJT from your desktop - it will be properly installed when you do the following:

Now follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given further down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First. If TDSSserv is not found, just continue on with the READ & RUN ME.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated, our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Malware still there...followed READ ME FIRST Instructions...logs attached

Hello. Did everything on the READ ME FIRST Instructions. Followed each step carefully. I was able to do almost everything, except to run Malwarebytes and get a log and Super Anti Spyware as well.

First off, thanks for your help.

Here's my problem. I was getting google/yahoo re-directs. I tried to do system restore, but restore points were removed. Tried to use McAfee spyware scan, but gets blocked. Message: Error starting on demand scanner.
Now internet seems fine, after ComboFix ran but I still can't get McAfee to run a scan, and unable to run Windows update as well. So, thats why I'm here. I did everything on the Read Me First instructions. Got everything to run except Malwarebytes and SAS. I was able to download both , but when I tried to run them , it would suddenly stop. Clicked to restart it but got this message:Windows cannot access the specied device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

    Running Win XP pro sp3.

Thanks, Dr. Moriarty. I did all steps in the read me first instructions. I was able to run ComboFix, Rootrepeal, and MGtools, which I have logs to show. I apologize for not reading my original post. I have posted a new thread today, only 30 mins ago with the logs attached. Should I keep checking this log, or do I wait to get a reply from today's post. Just the same, here are the logs:

Sorry for the wait, Hanopol - there are alot of new things going on in the malware fight!

The below fixes are specific to this member's problem and should only be used for issue(s) on this machine. Also, please do not install any other software while we are still working with you unless instructed. Once we have given you the all clean and final instructions you will be free to install what you want.

*Giving all users Administrator's accounts is bound to lead to problems. And, please note that you shouldn't run ComboFix without supervision.

    Step 1:
Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and continue on. We'll be re-installing them later.

    Step 2:
NOTE: There are some left-overs from Ad-Aware that I will be removing, since you no longer have it installed.
Now we need to use ComboFix.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware, firewall...etc) programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. *Remember to re-start them before coming back online.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
If it asks you to overide the previous file with the same name, click YES.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Step 3:
Open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

    Step 4:
Re-boot your pc, then using the links provided in the
Windows XP Cleaning Procedure - Step 1: Downloading Tools
    - download, install, and update the definition databases for SUPERAntiSpware & Malwarebyte's, then try running the scans again.

    Step 5:
Now go to this link MGTools and download the new version of MGtools....overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • MBAM log
    • SASlog.txt
    • updated C:\ComboFix.txt

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

    Hello, Hanopol

What problem are you having getting "analysethis" to run and produce a log?

    Step 1:
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Step 2:
Open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

    Step 3:
Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • C:\avenger.txt

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

    Thanks, Dr. M.
Here are the logs as requested. My main problem is not being able to run McAfee spyware cleaner. I just get a message: Unable to run on demand scanner. Also, I can't uninstall McAfee. It says it cant find some file. I have problems with my ipod shuffle, I can't copy any songs into it. I'm not sure if its all related. It seem that some commands are being aborted.
I am very grateful for your help. Thanks for your patience!
