    Hi all,

Whenever I try to go to windows updates it gives a 80244019 error message which is the DNSchanger trojan.

I installed malware bytes on all computers and updated the latest virus definitions. I disconnected the network cables from all comptuers and rebooted into safe mode and ran the malwarebytes program to remove the trojan. It found about 6 DNSchanger trojan from the registry which I then removed. I rebooted and ran the same thing again from safe mode and it came out clear. I booted up normally ran the scan again and it came with 0 infections. Once I connected my network cable to th computers I was still unable to update my windows updates and I still keep getting the 80.255... IP addresses as my dns. I ran the malwarebytes normally and it came up with the same 6 trojan entries again. I went to the linksys router console and found the DNS IP addresses were manually entered there. I do not recall the DNS ip address from my ISP so I cannot put in different numbers.

So obviously, it's the linksys router that is infected. What are the steps involved in removing the virus from my router?? Thanks.

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given further down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in Safe Mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    4. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Re: DNSChanger trojan has manually changed my linksys router DNS and infected all pc'

I resovled this problem. I used ccleanup and malwarebytes which I installed on all machines. I updated the definitions and rebooted into safe mode without any network connection. I ran the two apps in safe mode which deleted all trojans. I rebooted into safe mode again on all machines and re-ran malwarebytes which now came up clean. On to the router, I tried uprgrading the firmware from the linksys router page, but it failed to do so. I then used a previously downloaded setup application file which I downloaded from linksys to manually upgrade the firmware. After I upgraded the firmware, I reset the router and manually cloned the mac address of one of my workstations. I released and renewed DHCP on my the router and finally got the correct DNS ip address and now have full internet connection! I ran malwarebytes on all computers, which were now fully connected to the router and came up clean from the trojan. Operation complete.
