This issue started yesterday. My desktop rebooted overnight while not being used, and when I woke up in the morning it had a pop-up from some fake malware program saying my computer has the "win32.zafi.b" Trojan. Most major malware sites (including Major Geeks) are not accessible. I'm currently using my laptop and transferring these required files that way. The only real issue besides the blocked websites is that all Google search result links are redirected when clicked, and I get the fake virus program pop-up every 15 minutes or so.

SuperAntiSpyware would not install. Double click, nothing happens.
Spybot started to install, but would not connect to the server.
Malwarebytes started to install but got several errors regarding dll's that couldn't be registered.
Combofix would not run from desktop. Double click, nothing happens.

    MGTools ran fine.

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. Make sure you use the current version of MGtools which you did not last time.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Excellent. Disabled TDSSserv, restarted the "Read and Run Me First" process, and all programs ran as normal. Also, all symptoms are currently gone.

    I have attached the logs.

Thanks for all of the help, it is truly appreciated.

Oops, forgot to update MGTools per post #2. I have included the new MGTools .zip in this post. Sorry about that.

    Hello, jgood

*Note! You currently have NO Anti-Virus program installed on this machine! As soon as we have completed the below steps, install an anti-virus immediately.

I strongly recommend that you clean up your Desktop immediately leaving only links. Do not store downloads, exe files, iso files....etc on your Desktop. First it is not a safe place to keep them (i.e., you may loose them due to malware, and a cluttered Desktop is an easy hiding place for malware, and last but not least it can have an effect on your PCs performance.

    Navigate to and delete C:\WINDOWS\Sysvxd.exe

Using this link - How to Protect Yourself from malware! - install an anti-virus program. *Make sure you also read about the limits of Windows Firewall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Then attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!
