friend can't even access this site!

I don't know all the details, but a friend said his laptop is SERIOUSLY screwed up, he suspects malware. Not sure all the symptoms, but here's what I remember:

-he starts his laptop and the firewall is off upon startup
-crashing and VERY slow
-unable to run AVG
-buys full version of AVG, won't let him install it
-can access hotmail, but cannot access this forum (which I emailed him the link to)
-cannot access many sites that could help or scan his system
-said he was only on myspace and similar sites (ie, no 'blatant' sites known for malware)

What are his options? Could I download some 'stand alone' (that can run from a folder; doesn't need installed) software that I could put on an external drive and let him scan his laptop from that drive?

If he had a PC I'd just remove his drive and scan it from my system, but I'm no good with taking laptops apart.

UPDATE: He said their are all sorts of pop-ups, and they keep trying to send him to a site. He doesn't know the URL off hand, and I'm not sure I want him emailing it to me, or want to post it here!

 

He emailed me these 2 links copied from the address bar where he's apparently being redirected. He says they're just blank, white screens though; no content or websites.

Please have your friend follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given further down and attach the requested logs once complete with these instructions.

• If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.

Helpful Notes:

1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in Safe Mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
   • Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!
4. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
