Is it virus/spyware/IE I DON'T KNOW

    Good morning everyone. I will jump right in. If I'm not posting in the right forum, please redirect me :) A few days ago this is what happened.

    1. svchost.exe - application error. Instruction at "75606eb5". Referenced memory "0x000000008". Or..same message but 1st number is 0x7564d383 and 0x00000060. They both say they cannot "read". That stupid window has been staring/beeping at me for days, and just this morning it didn't show up. I'm pretty sure it's lurking around tho, waiting to jump out when I least expect it.

    2. Windows cannot find C.Drive

    3. Adaware wouldn't update (connection error) took it off and put back on 2x times, still won't update..left it off. If I did get to that anniversary edition loading page it would just freeze the computer so badly that I couldn't even use the start button shut down process....yes had to use the button.

    4. Cannot access internet using IE..the white page would just show up and not load at all. A friend put firefox on just so I could get onto internet..now I have 2 browsers floating around.

    5. Even with firefox, when I try to link onto some sites with google the computer will take me to some random ad sites (smartbizsearch is one) I have to go down the list of hits to actually get connected to the item I want

    6. Windows firewall...dbl click "Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Service (ICS) service?" yes or no

    7. When I run my Avast AV it gives me this message at the end.."Disk C:Boot Record-Unable to scan:N...(don't know what the end of this word is)

    C:Documents and Settings\All Users\..\sb Recovery.ini Unable to Scan: Ar

    ***Someone that I know said don't worry about that message, he gets that alot on his computer as well, just ignore it. hmmm
    *** This same person said it would be a really good idea to have 2 AV running on the computer at the same time..this way, if one misses something the other will catch it. hmmmm

    8. I'm getting quite a few pop ups that I've never had before...as in NO POP UPS. Tribalfusion is one.

    9. At the very bottom of my screen the task bar? is usually blue, sometimes it will change between blue and white and the icons on the far right (normally all horizontal) will shift to vertical..2 or 3 up 2 or 3 underneath and display the day of the week (normally i don't have that)

    10. Sometimes when I'm reading a page the page itself will jiggle or start scrolling down by itself OR if I want to scroll up/down just a bit it will either shoot up or down real quick

    ***I'm pretty sure I'm missing some stuff, but I think this is more than enough wouldn't you say so.

    **The computer that I'm on is an old Dell Dimension 4300...IE 7 and newly installed firefox..Windows XP

    **Please, please when you reply I'll warn ya, I'm like a beginning 7 year old :confused Speak slowly and simply. I guess if you've been on here for quite a while that would end up being a daunting task. Oh well...I'm taking you back to your roots folks. Have a great day :-D

    Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

    Helpful Notes:


    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid addtional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advise that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
