    quick specs:
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.00GHz
    2047MB
    32-bit Operating System
Using Mozilla Firefox 3.0.8 as primary browser, use IE (7.0.6) sometimes

    problems:
Had a couple of these malwares for a while I'm guessing, get pop-ups but most seem to be blocked or not effecting Firefox. More recently I noticed my drives spolling up on thier own and flux in hard drive space.

Couple days ago I installed a rip of a gif animator someone passed me, and I'm pretty sure this thing was loaded. Started getting Interactive services dialog detection 'program can't display a message on your desktop', at which time I noticed several processes I couldn't account for (edit was fkqi.exe, i think i managed to remove it by uninstalling something called 'targetsaver' from the control pannel)...

I noticed svchost.exe has been infected and im guessing cannot just be deleted. Probably would have just reformatted, but my DVD drive is not reading (not sure if this is related, or if it's just hardware failure).

Have also had intermittent usb mouse failure (mouse hangs for a couple seconds, will eventually die completely, is brad new logitech optical), again, not sure if this is related but I've herd of NVIDIA drivers effecting USB, and with all this malware who knows...

    Malbytes log:
    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.35
    Database version: 1939
    Windows 6.0.6000

fyi I just noticed that 'svchost.exe' is a dummy program not in the windows root directory, so i'm going to try to blow it away. the person who told me to post here said just post your logs and wait for someone to respond, but I'm hoping vista sp1 might cure some of this so i'm pretty anxious for any kind of response....

    EDIT: log file from cleaning...:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.35
    Database version: 1939
    Windows 6.0.6000

everything seems to have cleared up, although I got a verification check problem (windows genuine) on restart, and could not verify my OS as genuine until I rebooted with HJT uninstalled (probably just because it's an older version)...

also if the guy who posted the %APPDATA% on desktop thing is reading this, it's probably related to mozilla. try this thread, see if it helps:

apparently you can't post in other people's threads on this forum.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

If you are still having any malware problems, please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. Please do not post inline logs like you have been doing.

    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
