I got some form of the vundo virus/malware on my computer today. It was my work computer, so I would assume fairly heavily protected, as I work for a pretty big company. Whatever I had was causing my computer to run normal for about 30 minutes, and then I was getting an error that basically gave me a 1 minute countdown before my PC rebooted.

After reboot, the same thing would happen. I ran my TrendMicro virus scan and it cleaned a few things, but after 30 minutes or so, the same thing happened again.

I then purchased Stopzilla and ran that. It cleaned some 70 or so files, and is not detecting anything at the current time. The last things that appear to be stuck are something called Agent.HRO and something called motatuwo.dll. The Agent.HRO has been removed a few times by Stopzilla, followed by a clean scan, but then might get caught again on the next scan.

I am by no means an expert, but I think the main problem is the motatuwo.dll. Every time I try to open a program, be it Excel, Firefox, Outlook, etc.... I get a message saying:

"The application or DLL C:\WINNT\system32\motatuwo.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this agent against your installation diskette."

Does anybody have any advice for me on how to get rid of this file?

Can I just delete the file permanently without harming the PC?

Might my problem be something else completely?

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid addtional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advise that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
