Hey, guys. Thanks for reading my thread. Here is my problem:

For a couple of days now, my pc has been getting to the "windows is shutting down" screen and just holding there. It will restart just fine, but shutting down has been impossible without flipping the switch on the power supply (something that I really really hate doing.) In addition, the processor is much more active than usual (sticking between 85 and 100% without anything but XP and my standard background processes running) and causing slow performance. I am thinking that it is a malware program in the active processes of my operating system and decided that I'd better let somebody who can figure out a hijack this log take a look at it. I've used avast, threatfire, spybot, adaware, clamwin, malwarebytes, and advanced system care pro to try and find the problem and they're all claiming the computer to be clean.

I would definintely appreciate any help. Thanks very much for your time.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Inmost cases, shutdown problems are related to programs you are running and not malware. We can check your PC for malware if you wish by having you follow the below cleaning procedure, but you may just be having issues what you are running. I would start by uninstalling Ad-Aware and ThreatFire and see how things look.

    Cleaning Procedure:

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Thank you for your reply.

First off, I'm sorry that I completely missed the "No HJT" sticky at the top before I posted. Won't happen again. Next, No need to check for malware. Once I saw the sticky that I missed, I went straight through the removal guide and nothing was found. I did, however, find out a couple of the causes of my problems since then.

    1) IDE Channels were set to PIO mode and this was causing a lot of hardware interrupts to eat up the cpu(I think that's what it is at least.) That has been fixed.

    2) My event viewer found the boot driver error EVENT_BOOT_SYSTEM_DRIVERS_FAILED. That, I don't have a solution for atm. I will attach a txt copy of what the help center told me about it.

So, I think it's pretty obvious now that you are correct and it is an issue of conflicting programs. I will uninstall threatfire and Adaware and let you know in a few minutes if that worked.

Thank you, again, for your time and effort. I really appreciate it.
