Hello,

I've been battling this issue @ work for weeks and its become critical

I cant even remote into the server in question anymore, and every time I head to the RDC I need to reboot into safe mode and run a smitfreud fix just to temp regain access to the registry.

Its a win2k3 server running IIS 6, our main content server.

Infections are:

PWS.LDPINCHLE
SMITFREUD
VUNDO (virtumonde)

I have downloaded the opp-fix's and even manually cleaned the registry, it will seem fine for about an hour before becoming totally riddled with these infections again and will have to be rebooted (and then left alone) cause if you remote into it then it crashes again. (We need to remote into this server to access other databases)

Now I know with out Hijack This logs and reg information its kind of impossible to help, howerver, if you have ANY kind of links; advice anything please post for my review.

Also, I restored everything off this server to a replacement, exported IIS to xml and imported on the new server then copied the entire Inetpub dir to the 2nd server, but when I call data from it nothing comes up. (example, testing locally 192.168.1.5/inetpub/wwwroot/dir/something.html and it wont pull anything, If IIS and directories/workgroups/ips are the same what the **** else could it be! ugh..

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.

TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

NOTE: I'm not sure that ComboFix (which is part of our procedure) will run on Windows 2003. If it does not, then just skip it.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!

Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

what do I do about the fact that I cant access the registry, even while logged in as the admin!
