    Hello,

First of all I'm not very good with this kind of things so I apologise if I say something wrong.

Yesterday I've received a warning message (on my laptop) from my anti-virus AVG 8 that there was a trojan detected Backoor.SdBot4.LHN in C:/Users/*/Documents/smss.exe . I chose to let AVG delete the threat. But shortly after another similar warning message followed now with this as path: C:/smss.exe . I let the AVG move it into VirusVault (= AVG's quarantine).
I ran a full system scan with AVG after it and it appeared clean (except for several tracking cookies). However, when today I inserted a memory stick into the laptop a new warning message poped up telling me that there was that same trojan (BackDoor.SdBot4.LHN) in the 2 following paths:
    - F:/usb_smss.exe
    - F:/autorun.exe
Once again I let AVG put it into VirusVault. But a new problem arose: now I cannot open my memory stick on my laptop. I get an error message: F:/ Application not found.
Here I must add the following: I have Total Commander on my laptop and with Total Commander I still can open my memory stick on the laptop, but not with Windows Explorer. Also, I inserted that memory stick into another computer which had the same version of AVG as my laptop and there were no warnings from the anti-virus and I could normally open the memory stick (laptop runs on Vista, that other pc runs on XP)
The fact that I couldn't open memory stick on my laptop freaked me out so I ran a system restore using restore point created 2 days ago yet I still receive the same error when I try to open memory stick on the laptop.

Can you please help me make sure that the trojan is permanently deleted from my system and fix the problem about not being able to open a memory stick?

If needed, please tell me what extra information you need.

    Thank you

Uhm, I couldn't find the button to edit my post, so I'm sorry about posting a small update on my situation this way

Update: after I wrote this post I left my laptop in "Sleep" for couple of hours. I just turned it back on and now suddenly I can open my memory stick with Windows Explorer without any problems it seems

Once again I'm sorry for updating my topic like this. Either I'm blind either there is really no "Edit"-button here :)

Anyway, here a small update on my situation:

I followed some steps my friend suggested me, here they are:
    - I formated that memory stick that was causing problems (before that I've copied all the files on the stick to my hard drive as back up, that was my idea :) )
    - I started my laptop in Safe Mode and ran full scans by both Malewarebytes' Anti-Malware and AVG8. Both came up clean, no threats detected (I'll copy-paste the log of Anti-Malware, can't find the log that AVG created while scanning in save mode)
So everything looks fine now, but to be sure I'd like to hear your opinion.
Tell me if you need me to do something extra and/or provide some extra information

Thanks for spending time reading all this :)

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First. If TDSSserv is not found, just continue on with the READ & RUN ME.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Hi,

Sorry for such a slow reply, I have been very busy with my work and had little access to this computer. The logs will be coming up this afternoon.

Thank you for your time and patience

I'm back. Here are the logs from MBAM, SAS and ComboFix.

By the way, a little "confession": I've also posted my problem on GeeksToGo.com . No offence or anything, I just get very nervous in situations like this and I was looking for multiple opinions just to be sure :) The guys there also told me to run Flash_Disinfector after ComboFix since I had couple of memory sticks infected.
I hope it's alright for you

Anyway here are the logs and thanks a lot for your help

You did not attach the log from running C:\MGTools.exe --> C:\MGLogs.zip

Now you need to make a choice....either work with GeekstoGo or with us. Otherwise it is a waste of both our resources and theirs.

    Owkey

I'll go with GeeksToGo since I have couple of small extra questions for them concerning Flash_Disinfector besides the trojan-thingy.

Thanks for your patience with me :) , I appreciate it :)
