    Hi,
I am new to this site, but for the last month of so my computer has been running very slow. I don't know if its because my memory is too full, or if its a virus. I haven't been getting any popups or anything that would signal a virus in my mind, but I was wondering if someone here could help me out with the process. Thanks a lot.

    Zach

I also had one more quick question...I have a dell latitude D620, and every time i close my screen i have to turn off my computer and shut the whole system down to get it up again. How can I change this, so when i close my screen it won't turn my screen black and I'll have to reboot.

    Thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Are you posting about two different computers in this thread? If so, you must not do that.

Problems with your PC not coming out of hibernate (which is what I assume you mean) belong in the Hardware Forum.

As for your slow PC, malware can contribute to PCs being slow but very often it is just due to the PC's specifications and what software you are running. You did not provide us any info to go on. You did not say what version of Windows you are running nor did you give us any PC specs. You also did not tell us exactly what functions are slow like for example answer the below:
    • Is boot up slow?
    • Is shutdown slow?
    • Is browsing/surfing slow?
    • Is downloading slow?
    • Is running any application?
    • Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    • Also are any process showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    • Anything else slow?

We can check your PC for malware if you wish by having you work thru the below and this will also give us a lot of info about your PC to help us possibly determine why it is slow.

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.
