VirtuMonde problem?...hmmm

    Gang...I believe VirtuMonde is slowing up my computer. I routinely scan my pc for infections with Lavasoft Adaware and Spy Bot Search and Destroy. While running Spybot Search & Destroy I notice the program was running incredibly slow when it came across the VirtuMonde file(s).

    All the cleaning and scanning I am doing seems to not be doing the job.

    The programs I have been using to check my computer have been Verizon Security Suite, Spybot Search & Destroy, Lavasoft Adaware and Trend Micro Anti-Spyware.

    I do have CC Cleaner and HiJackThis.

    Any help would be GREAT !!!!! Thank You all for reading.

    Sincerely ,

    Ken

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    I am not seeing any malware ....though there are a few things left to do after the scans did thier job:

    Please Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

    Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    And lastly, you need to clean this up as it is a great place for malware to hide:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Ken\Desktop\

    Reboot and download and install:
    Java Runtime

    What issues are you still having?

    Tim....I must first say, MAJOR GEEKS is incredible !!! Your time is greatly appreciated.:) Oh yeah...my computer is running GREAT !!!

    When I try to run the Java Runtime program I get this prompt:

    JRE- 6u11 -windows -i586 -p.exe is not a valid Win32 application

    Try again without your AV and AS programs running as well as keeping Teatimer off.

    Also run JavaRa and clean up all older Java's.

    I do not know why you are having problems installing Java.....perhaps you should post in the software section for assistance with that.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Tim....I have 2 more computers on this network. Could I repeat the same procedure for them and just post the log files in this same thread ?

    Yes...start a new thread for each computer. Reference this thread.

    Trojan Issue

    These past 30 days have been rough on my network. My first computer was fixed a few weeks ago...thanks to Major Geeks. Unfortunately I was recently fooled into allowing a disk check from what I thought was Microsoft but was actually a virus of some sort.

    I ran a scan using Malware Bytes and found this:

    Registry Data Items Infected:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit (Trojan.Agent) -> Data: c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit (Trojan.Agent) -> Data: system32\userinit.exe -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

    It says they were removed but when I run Malware Bytes again they keep appearing.

    Sorry to be back so soon. I feel like a fool. :banghead

    Thank You.
