Just today, whenever I login to an account, my computer becomes super slow, taking forever to anything (1.6ghz processor 2gb memory), including opening task manager, start menu etc (I'm posting on a different computer). When task manager opens, it says that only 5% cpu is being used, which is normal, but it's still being slow. Also, Threatfire never loads, the system tray icon says that it's initiating and Bitdefender antivirus says that my license has expired, even though I bought a one year license about 3 months ago. The HDD indicator light on my computer is constantly lit even though nothing is happening. I can't do anything, even safe mode booting has the same symptoms. Any ideas on what the problem is?

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given further down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in Safe Mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    4. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Another update! I'm using XP the problem now is, I can't even log on when normally booting, and when I try safe mode, it loads all the drivers then doesn't load. Same HDD light problem, light stays on, a repetitive sound is made and then it just gets stuck like that. I'm too the point where I'm just trying to remember what applications I had installed and reinstalling. Only problem is, I don't have an operating system disc, only an I386 folder, which I can't access for obvious reasons.:cry

Yup, a series of 3 clicks like click-------click-click, not really click but it's the best way I can describe it sounds like when the computer is starting up or writing to the disk. I've booted from a flash drive with kubuntu and I can still get to my hard disks and move files around etc. should I reinstall?

If you can hear it clicking and can still get to your files and data, back them up ASAP and start shopping for a new HDD.

You should post in the software section for further assistance. :(

Are you sure :p it sounds like a combination of a click and a buzz and it doesn't sound any different from normal, just that it's in that in a pattern.

A HDD shouldn't make any abnormal sounds such as clicking or buzzing. If it does then it's failing and you should backup anything you have and replace it because it will die shortly.

A hint from experience, if a HDD is making a clicking or knocking sound, if you have it spinning, don't turn it off because it may not spin again which means data loss.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but this is seriously the sound that this computer, the EEE PC 1000H makes when it's processing. Though I still agree with you on tthe fact that it might be an HDD problem, also, the HDD light problem doesn't start until like 15 seconds after startup. :p

Regardless, there is nothing we can do to help until you have a bootable system. I would suggest you post in the software section and get a stable system and then we can address the issue of malware.
