This system is runnin Vista64 home premium.

Last week I began experiencing an issue connecting to the internet. Computer was working fine for a few hours then I got a window asking me for a broadband connection. I have never needed to provide this machine with connection information before it hs always automatically found internet service connected directly to the modem or on a router. I haven't been home to fool with it in a few days until now so I decided to do some cleaing/checking. Everytime I try and access the web it opens a conection window asking me for username/PW which I have never had to have in over a year then goes to "work offline" I was able to cancel out of it and continue a few times yesterday but didn't have time to go through the readme runme section to start the process. Today I canot get the system online to work through any of the procedures or access the interet at all, it will automatically go to working offline. It's not a problem with my internet as I can get online with my roomates machine when conected directly to the modem(as I am now) It certainly seems like a virus of some kind. I am currently online w/ my roomates computer any sugestions on where to begin?

What kind of connection to the internet are you using? DSL, Cable,....other?

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Cable. Sorry I know my original message wasn't very clear and typeing on roomies broke comp is trying at times. The affected system now prompts me for connection information repeatedly even though it is physically disconected from the modem. At this point the system is completely incapable of accessing the internet and I am considerig a clean install of OS to get it up and running then reinstalling Avast from discs and slowly moving back online making sure it is protected. Unfortunately the system was up ad running with little or no attention from me in the early weeks of April, while that may be a coincidece my girlfriend can't help but tell me "I told you so"

It's up to you which course of action you want to take, but if you want our help looking for potential malware causes then you will have to follow the instructions I gave you and attach the logs we require to help you.
