    Hi.

    I recently updated my java as per your instructions in the getting started section, and have a few questions. Please forgive my ignorance, I still have much to learn about my computer.

    Since I updated java, I have not been able to use it properly. I'm not sure if this is because of the update itself or because I also installed "No Script" on my Mozilla Firefox browser (the java failure coincided with the No Script which was added a few days after the java update). I made sure that my browsers were enabled to run java, but the problem persists. So I decided to uninstall java and reinstall it.

    As I was uninstalling it, my firewall (comodo) kept alerting me that java was trying to access a number of locations in my computer...I tried to keep up and kept checking each to make sure they were safe but blocked all requests to access as I've never had my firewall alert me to this kind of activity when I've uninstalled a program.

    The two that worry me, that I can remember (sorry) were "MS12B9.exe" (no information found through my google searches) and "wcsntfy.exe" which every source has listed as dangerous.

    I'm going to run my spybot S&D and my adaware but I'd appreciate any direction toward how this got on my computer, whether I should be worried...
    I'm not sure how to use "hijack this" which I read about frequently or if I need it with the antivirus/spy I already have. I'm kind of paranoid about keeping my computer safe, the more I read, the more I feel the need to figure this stuff out but am kind of flailing here. Any help would be appreciated.

    I have moved this to software.

    And you placed your avatar in the area for your picture.....check your user profile to fix that.:)

    Now I am trying to change msconfig to Normal start-up mode but it won't let me. Every time I click "Apply," the "OK" button changes to "Close" and a little "System Configuration" box pops up with "& About System Configuration"

    Just continue on.....and note that in the post in malware when you have the requested logs.

    If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.

    If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

    Helpful Notes:


    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes and Spybot ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. To avoid addtional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advise that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky Don't Bump! It Only Hurts You!!!. Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    my java still doesn't run. I know that bumping the thread means waiting longer for a reply but I think the java error log may prove useful.
