Win.XP SP3 Home..The Security Center is not recognizing Windows Firewall or AVG . The Change The Way Security Center alerts me, is dim like it has been clicked on.

I had the XP Security 2012 Trojan on my pc last week but it is clean now. I dont get any more pop ups & I can use all my tools. It had controll of Security Center, but when I got the trojans off, I'm sure that is when my trouble started.

    Thanks for your help.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Looks like the cleaning process removed most of your problems. Just delete the below files:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\d1xn71b6qf5vhs
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\d1xn71b6qf5vhs
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Templates\d1xn71b6qf5vhs

And tell me do you know what the below folder is for? Are any files in this folder?
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\105E4

  6. jackg304

    jackg304 Private E-2

    Deleted these files
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\d1xn71b6qf5vhs
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\d1xn71b6qf5vhs
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Templates\d1xn71b6qf5vhs

C:\Program Files\105E4 was empty. I deleted the folder..

I still have a problem...No Sound.. NO AUDIO DEVICE. Can you tell me how to get this back on?
I did a screen print that i was going to attach but decided to wait & see if you need it. all it shows is whats above.

I thank you for all your time,
    Jack Gillis

    Hi jackg304,

I will help you with your remaining malware problems as chaslang has been busy.

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3557/tdsskiller.gif I want you to read and follow these instructions: TDSSKiller - How to run

http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/6703/generalxpicon.gif Please download MBRCheck by clicking here and save it to your desktop.

    • Double-click on the file to run it. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • A window will open on your desktop.
    • If an unknown bootcode is found you will have further options available to you, at this time press N then press Enter twice.
    • If nothing unusual is found just press Enter.
    • A .txt file named MBRCheck_mm.dd.yy_hh.mm.txt should appear on your desktop.
    • Attach this file to your next message. (How to attach)

    http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/945/baticonxp.gif Now run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat by double-clicking it.
This updates all of the logs inside MGlogs.zip.

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3557/tdsskiller.gif Re-run TDSSKiller, however this time I want you to select to Delete TDSS File System. Leave the other detections alone.

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/6741/addremovexp.gif From Add/Remove Programs (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:
    • Java(TM) 7 Update 1

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/2039/msnmsg.gif Please download Disable/Remove Windows Messenger by Doug Knox to your desktop.
    • Double-click MessengerDisable.exe to run it.
    • Place checkmarks in "Uninstall Windows Messenger" and "Hide Messenger from Outlook Express"
    • Click Apply
    • Click Exit

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\A4610 <-- Delete this folder

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4783/regeditb.gif Open Notepad and copy everything in the code box below into it.
    Code:
    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{B7B664DF-3AF9-4C8E-8148-F42BB7831D27}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    • File -> Save As -> Save as type: "All Files" -> File Name: fixme.reg > Save.
Now merge this into the registry by double-clicking it.
Let me know if the merge was successful or not.

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/9049/javaz.gif Now install the current version of Sun Java from: jre-7u2-windows-i586.exe

Put your computer back into Normal Startup Mode and reboot before proceeding to the next step. See >> Use MSconfig to setup for Normal Startup Mode

    http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/945/baticonxp.gif Now run C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat by double-clicking it.
This updates all of the logs inside MGlogs.zip.
When it is finished, attach C:\MGlogs.zip to your next message. (How to attach)

Let me know how things are running afterwards.

What I meant was that you are going to scan your system using TDSSKiller again using the same setting as before.

But this time, whenever TDSS File System is detected...

    Example from your log:
    Code:
    00:00:55.0687 3200	\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 ( TDSS File System ) - [B][COLOR="Red"]skipped by user[/COLOR][/B]
    00:00:55.0687 3200	\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 ( TDSS File System ) - User select action: [B][COLOR="Red"]Skip[/COLOR][/B]
Allow TDSSKiller to Delete this instead of choosing Skip.

Do you have any missing drivers in Device Manager (Start -> run -> devmgmt.msc)?

    Code:
    System Model	Dimension 4600i
Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio <-- Audio Driver here
    Downloads Root

At this point I do not think malware is the problem. Most likely there is a missing driver or some faulty hardware.

Hi thisisu...after about 5 or 6 tries i finally got TDSS File System
to delete. It wouldn't give me a choice when it was clean. Finally on this last scan it found a threat then i got the choice.

Yes I had sound drivers missing. Downloaded from the link you advised & now the sound is back..

Everything seems to be back to normal again.:p

    :cool

    Latest TDSSKiller looks good.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
